Privacy Policy
Chest (“the App”) is a personal content tracker for movies, TV, anime, manga, and books. This policy explains what data we collect and how we use it.
Information we collect
- Account data — email and profile details provided through Clerk authentication.
- Library data — titles you save, rate, finish, organize into collections, and libraries you import from Goodreads or IMDb CSV exports.
- Preferences — recommendation content-type preferences and similar in-app settings.
- Contacts (optional) — if you allow Contacts, we hash phone numbers and match emails from your address book to people already on Chest. We do not upload your address book.
- Photos (optional) — if you pick a profile photo, or a share destination needs a poster attached.
- Push notifications — a device token so we can deliver Alerts and friend-request badges. You can turn notifications off in system Settings.
- Technical data — standard server logs needed to operate and secure the API.
How we use information
- To provide and sync your personal library across devices, including matching imported Goodreads and IMDb lists and letting you download a copy of your Chest.
- To power personalized “For You” recommendations from your library taste.
- To authenticate you and protect your account.
- We do not sell your data.
Third-party services
- Clerk — authentication and account management.
- Resend — optional email when a library import finishes.
- TMDB, AniList, Google Books — content metadata for search and details.
- Hardcover — book metadata (primary books catalog).
- Sentry — optional crash and error reports when a DSN is configured. Reports can include device and stack information, not your library titles.
- Hosting providers (e.g. Render, Vercel) — app and share-link hosting.
- Optional AI providers may process anonymized taste signals to generate recommendations.
Data retention & deletion
You can delete your account from Profile → Delete Account. That removes your Chest library data associated with your account. Authentication records held by Clerk are handled under Clerk’s policies.
Children
Chest is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
